Scholarships

The Mildred D. Brown Memorial Study Center Inc. provides scholarships to students interested in pursuing journalism degrees in post-secondary institutions. These students will go on to obtain careers in the field of Journalism and Broadcasting and will continue providing news and media in the spirit of Mildred Brown.

HELEN JONES WOODS AND WILLIAM (BILL) WOODS SCHOLARSHIP

Amount – Up to $3000.00

Major – Journalism/Communications

Full time freshman through senior African-American female student enrolled in an accredited university/college/community college pursing advanced studies in the fields of communications and journalism which includes print, television, radio, video production and all aspects of internet-based media.
Nebraska Resident
3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Recipient may receive all of available funds or a portion of the available funds. Final amount to be determined by Helen Jones Woods and Bill Woods Endowment Committee.

MARY BURDEN GOLDSTON SCHOLARSHIP

Amount – Up to $5000.00

Major – Journalism/Communications

  • Full time freshman through senior African-American female student enrolled Hampton University pursing advanced studies in the fields of communications and journalism which includes print, television, radio, video production and all aspects of internet-based media.
  • Nebraska Resident
  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient may receive all of available funds or a portion of the available funds.  Final amount to be determined by Mary Burden Goldston Scholarship Endowment Committee.

VALERIE GOLDSTON SCHOLARSHIP

Amount – Up to $5000.00

Major – Journalism/Communications

  • Full time freshman through senior African-American student enrolled in Hampton University pursing advanced studies in the fields of communications and journalism which includes print, television, radio, video production and all aspects of internet-based media.
  • Nebraska Resident
  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient may receive all of available funds or a portion of the available funds.  Final amount to be determined by Valerie Goldston Scholarship Endowment Committee.

DR. MARGUERITA WASHINGTON SCHOLARSHIP

Amount – Up to $3000.00

Major – Journalism/Communications

  • Full time freshman through senior African-American student enrolled in an accredited university/college/community college pursing advanced studies in the fields of communications and journalism which includes print, television, radio, video production and all aspects of internet-based media.
  • Nebraska Resident
  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Recipient may receive all of available funds or a portion of the available funds.  Final amount to be determined by Dr. Marguerita Washington Scholarship Endowment Committee.
